One of the most historical places in the Pakistan, about 1 km from the Badami Bagh Railway Station, is the Gurdwara Nanak Garh. One of the holiest places of the Sikhs is directly related to the founder of this great religion: Guru Nanak Sahib. It has a deep history and cultural value, making this place a must-visit for persons keen on knowing more about Sikh heritage in Pakistan.

History

Gurdwara Nanak Garh occupies a unique place in Sikh history with regard to its relationship with Guru Nanak Sahib. Historical evidence asserts that Guru Nanak Sahib visited this place on one of his journeys. He is said to have released the soul of Duni Chand’s father from the cycle of birth and death, hence emancipating him spiritually at this very place.

In its prime, the Gurdwara was adorned with a beautiful dome, reflecting its grandeur and spiritual significance. Managed by dedicated Mahants, the site was a center of spiritual learning and devotion. Over time, however, the Gurdwara’s exact location and many of its physical structures have faded, leaving behind a rich legacy in the pages of history.

Importance

But Gurdwara Nank Garh was much more than an architectural beauty. It represented a very important chapter of Sikh history, being associated with the spiritual sojourn and preachings of Guru Nanak Sahib. For the Sikhs, it serves as a place for faith, spirituality, and the perpetual legacy left by Guru Nanak in the form of a message for equality, compassion, and service to humankind.

Even though nothing physical remains of the Gurdwara, its spiritual existence survives in the hearts of Sikhs all over the world. It stands to commemorate what Guru Nanak preached and did for the upliftment of humanity.

Location

Gurdwara Nanak Garh was located near the Badami Bagh Railway Station, along the banks of the old River Ravi in Pakistan. The fact that it was located at the center bears testimony to its historical importance as a crucial link in this network of Sikh pilgrimage sites all over the region.

Whereas the place itself might remain unclear today, efforts are being made to project and preserve it as a part of history. Many a researcher or historian undertakes strenuous efforts to dig out more about this revered place so that it retains a place in history and memory.
