Story Behind:
Bhai Hema, known for his unwavering faith and generosity, opened his humble thatched hut to any Sikh or holy man in need of shelter. Legend has it that Guru Arjan Sahib, caught in rain and storm during his travels, sought refuge at Bhai Hema’s hut. Despite his meager resources, Bhai Hema welcomed the Guru with open arms, offering the only blanket he had and serving a frugal meal with utmost devotion. Touched by his hospitality, Guru Arjan Sahib composed a hymn praising the virtues of a humble abode where God’s praises are recited.
During Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib’s martyrdom in Delhi, Bhai Hema played a crucial role in rescuing the Guru’s headless body from Aurangzeb’s men. Along with his brother Bhai Nagahia and others, Bhai Hema ensured the Guru’s body was cremated respectfully, despite the risks involved.
