Significance of Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Ji

The sixth Guru met with Diwan Chandu in 1619 A.D. This is a memorable meeting in the history of the Sikh panth, which had far-reaching effects on its relationship with the then ruling powers. Diwan Chandu, who was an important person, went to Guru Hargobind Ji for consultation and advice; this was owing to the sense of his exceptional leadership and spiritual perception that inspired many.

The Story of Mata Kohla

Next to this historical meeting, there is another exciting story attributed to this place alone: the story of Mata Kohla. Well, Mata Kohla used to be in a Muslim family. She had been hugely impressed by Guru Hargobind Ji. Her respect for the Guru was so much that she expressed her feelings in front of the Guru and manifested her love for him. Guru Hargobind Ji, seeing her dedicated love, with utmost compassion, gave her the status of a mother among all the sangat.

Knowing the threat she had put herself in, with regard to her kin, due to her newly found faith and devotion, Guru Hargobind Ji took Mata Kohla under his wing. He mounted her on his horse and rode off to safety, thus saving her in such a situation from any kind of harm.

The Sacred Peepal Tree

It is accompanied by the respected Peepal tree, under which Guru Hargobind Ji took some rest. The tree still stands there to vouch for the historicity and spiritual happenings of that area. It is said that the Guru tied his horse to this tree, thus adding its identity as a holy place.
